Touq Balad Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Touq Balad, you immediately sense this three-star hotel gets the basics right without trying too hard to be something it’s not. The lobby has that clean, understated feel that suggests the owners actually care about maintaining their property — which, honestly, isn’t always a given in this price range. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely pleased to see guests arrive, not just going through the motions you sometimes encounter at larger chain hotels.

Location & Neighborhood

The hotel sits on King Fahd Road in the Balad district, and I mean this in the best possible way — you’re right in the thick of things here. Balad is Jeddah’s historic heart, where you can actually walk to the old souks and traditional coral stone buildings that make this city special. Couples seem to particularly love this spot (they’ve rated the location 8.3), and I get why. There’s something romantic about being able to stroll through the old quarter in the evening, then duck into one of the nearby traditional restaurants without needing a taxi every time you want to explore.

The Room Experience

The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run three-star — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully laid out without unnecessary frills. I appreciated that the air conditioning actually works properly (crucial in Jeddah’s climate), and the beds are genuinely comfortable, not just adequate. The bathrooms are compact but functional, with decent water pressure and hot water that doesn’t take forever to arrive. You know what impressed me most? The attention to small details like having enough electrical outlets and blackout curtains that actually block the light.

Breakfast & Dining

The continental breakfast here is halal-certified and honestly better than I expected for a hotel in this category. They keep it simple but do it well — fresh bread, local cheeses, olives, and fruit that’s actually ripe. The coffee is decent (though if you’re particular about your morning brew, there are excellent traditional coffee shops within walking distance). I found myself looking forward to breakfast each morning, which says something since hotel breakfasts can often feel like an afterthought.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests have rated Touq Balad 8.2 overall, and after staying here, that feels about right — it’s solidly above average without being pretentious about it. What really works is the combination of the prime Balad location with genuine hospitality and fair pricing. You’re getting authentic Jeddah atmosphere without paying upscale hotel rates, and the staff treats you like a valued guest rather than just another room number. For travelers who want to experience the real character of historic Jeddah while having a comfortable, reliable base, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

We chose the hotel as it was close to the old quarter in Balad by a 15 minute leisurely walk. You can just wander around the streets and walk back easily. If you are laden with your shopping bags it's only about a 1km taxi ride.

  • Omar from Kuwait (9/10)

I liked how clean and convenient it is. It definitely exceeded our expectation. For its price, i thought we will be getting budget hotels that are old and stinky. but the rooms are obviously newly renovated and are very much clean!
